On 10th and 11th February 25 representatives from the organisations that will be involved in the next phase of making the MQF a reality met in Becici to plan activities over the next 12 months.  The adoption of a Law on National Qualification Framework in December last year means that establishment of the new bodies to support the MQF, training for staff on qualification development within the MQF and work on revising and reformulating existing educational programmes to form MQF qualifications can begin.  The meeting was chaired by Ms Mubera Kurpejovic, Deputy Minister for Higher Education.  Minister Stjepovic joined the group at the end of the second day’s activity.  Mrs Janet Swainger from the IPA-funded NQF and Quality Assurance in Education Project also helped facilitate.

It was a very lively meeting with much discussion and debate. Questions considered included: how might we best move forward with the revision of existing and development of new qualifications in order to be as effective and efficient as possible; how much can be achieved in the next 12 months;  who should lead and who needs to be involved in each of the activities and what will these developments cost?  A draft action plan setting out the responsibilities of the Ministry of Education and Sport, the Bureau for Education Services, the Vocational Education Centre, the Examination Centre the Sectoral Commissions for Qualifications and the Universities was developed.  This will be reviewed and revised over the next two weeks.  Once finalised the action plan will be published.
